It was a beautiful rainy evening. The sky was covered with clouds. Though it wasnโ€™t raining, the weather was cold and quite pleasant. Enjoying this lovely weather, Navya and Rohan were walking along the roadside.

Both were very happy today and why wouldnโ€™t they be? After all, they had set the stage on fire at their college today.

Oh, oh! By setting the stage on fire, I mean that both of them had given such an outstanding dance performance on Annual Day that the entire college had become their fan.

They even won first prize. They had worked very hard for this day and today, because of this victory, both of them were extremely happy.

Navya and Rohan had been childhood friends. They studied in the same school and later, by coincidence, both took admission to the same college.

Being in the same college deepened their friendship even more. Rohan and Navya were the closest of friends, always staying together.

Rohan had liked Navya since their school days but he never expressed his feelings out of fear of losing their friendship.

Somewhere, Navya also had feelings for Rohan but she wanted him to confess first.

Both of them had participated in the annual day dance competition and had given it their all.

The program lasted until the evening. Their houses werenโ€™t very far and since Rohanโ€™s house was a little closer to Navyaโ€™s, they decided to walk home together.

Rohan hadnโ€™t brought his bike today because Navya didnโ€™t want to take an auto in such beautiful weather and he also wanted to confess his feelings to her.

Thatโ€™s why he had deliberately not brought his bikeโ€”so he could get a chance to spend time with Navya.

They were walking together, laughing and joking. Rohan was gathering the courage in his mind,

"Today, no matter what, I have to tell Navya about my feelings. Come on, Rohan, you can do it! If I donโ€™t say it today, I might never get the chance again... But how do I say it?"

Rohan was talking to himself in his mind. Navya called out to him two or three times, but he didnโ€™t hear her.

So, shaking him hard, she said,

"Hey, idiot! Where are you lost? What are you thinking?"

Rohan startled, replied, "Huhโ€ฆ what? What happened?"

Navya: "What were you thinking?"

Rohan: "How do I tell youโ€ฆ I canโ€™t figure it out."

Navya: "What do you want to say?"

Rohan didnโ€™t say anything. Navya thought that maybe he wanted to confess his feelings.

She had been waiting for this moment for a long time, but since Rohan didnโ€™t know she liked him too, he was scared.

As they continued walking, they unknowingly strayed far from the public road. Because of the rainy weather, the road was quite deserted.

Finally, gathering courage, Rohan held Navyaโ€™s hand, put his other hand in his pocket and then got down on one knee in front of her.

In his hand was a beautiful ring. He extended it toward Navya, took a deep breath, and then said,

"Navyaโ€ฆ please donโ€™t get mad at what Iโ€™m about to say. Iโ€ฆ Navyaโ€ฆ I love you. I really love you so much. I have liked you since our school days, but I never had the courage to say it.

But today, I want to tell you that I love you a lot and want to marry you. Will you marry me?"

Hearing his words, Navya stared at him.

Her heart was filled with happiness. She felt like hugging Rohan right then but she just stood there silently.

Seeing her standing still, Rohanโ€™s fear grew even more.

"Lookโ€ฆ if you donโ€™t want to, thatโ€™s okay too. You can get angry, even slap me a couple of times, but please donโ€™t break our friendship. I canโ€™t live without youโ€ฆ Iโ€™m very sorry. Maybe I shouldnโ€™t have said all this. Please forgive me."

Seeing him feel so guilty, Navya couldnโ€™t help but smile. She took the ring from his hand and was about to speak when suddenly, they heard a loud noise from behind.

A truck was coming toward them at high speed. It seemed like the driver was completely drunk.

Before Rohan and Navya could understand anything, the truck hit them.

Navyaโ€™s head was injured and she lost consciousness right there.

Seeing the accident, the truck driver fled immediately. A crowd gathered, and someone called an ambulance to take them to the hospital.

Three days laterโ€ฆ

Navya slowly regained consciousness on the hospital bed. She opened her eyes slightly and saw her mother, father and elder sister sitting near her.

Their faces showed how worried they had been but seeing Navya regain consciousness, they were overjoyed.

They immediately called the doctor. The doctor checked her and confirmed that she was out of danger.

Hearing this, everyone sighed in relief.

Navya slowly sat up and asked, "What happened to me?"

Her sister sat beside her and said, "You had a head injury due to an accident and you were unconscious for three days."

Navya: "What? Three daysโ€ฆ And Rohan? Where is he? Is he okay?"

Navyaโ€™s mother: "Your friend? Yes, heโ€™s fine, but thank God youโ€™re okay and nothing too serious happened."

Navya: "Yes, but where is Rohan?"

Navyaโ€™s father: "Both of you were brought to the hospital together. He regained consciousness earlier but two days ago, his parents shifted him to another hospital. We havenโ€™t heard anything about him since then."

Navya: "Did they catch the truck driver?"

So Her father replied, "Yes, the police arrested him. Heโ€™s in jail now."

They sat with her for a while and then left the room.

After some time, a nurse came in carrying a tray with some of Navyaโ€™s belongings. She placed the tray on the table beside Navya and said,

"These are some of your things. Please check them."

Navyaโ€™s eyes went to the tray and the first thing she noticed was the ring that Rohan had given her.

But before she could give him an answer, all of this had happened, andโ€ฆ

Navya's phone broke in the accident so she quickly asked for her sister's phone and started calling Rohan, but his phone was switched off.

Navya was very worried about him, but everyone told her that he had regained consciousness and was fine.

Hearing this, she felt relieved.

Two days later, Navya was also discharged and returned home.

She was completely fine now, except for the bandage on her head.

During this time, she tried calling Rohan many times but his phone was unreachable.

After being discharged from the hospital, she went straight to Rohanโ€™s house in the evening but it was locked. Disappointed, she returned.

Two months later,

Time passed but there was no news of Rohan. Every evening, she would go to his house but seeing the lock on the door, she would return disappointed.

Like every day, that evening too, she went to Rohanโ€™s house but this time, seeing the door open, she was overjoyed and ran towards the house.

Rohanโ€™s parents were there but they told her that Rohan was not there. He had gone to Bangalore to his uncleโ€™s house for further studies.

Navya felt terrible knowing that Rohan had left without telling her anything.

She asked his mother for another contact number of Rohan and she gave it to her. Taking the number, Navya left from there.

Standing on the roadside, she dialed the number and hearing Rohanโ€™s voice after so many days brought her immense relief.

She immediately started scolding him,

"Where are you, huh? You didnโ€™t call me even once, no message and you just left the city without telling me? Come back right now! I want to meet you, okay?"

Navya said so much but there was no reply from the other side. After a brief silence, Rohan finally spoke,

"I'm fine, but Iโ€™m not coming back. I got admission to a top college here and I will stay here now."

Navya โ€“ "What do you mean youโ€™re not coming back? How will I stay here without you?"

Rohan โ€“ "Donโ€™t joke, yaar. We were just friends. You have other friends too, right? Stay with them."

Navya โ€“ "Just friends? But that day you..."

But before Navya could say anything further, Rohan interrupted her,

"Stop it, Navya... That was all in the past. I was just joking with you, nothing more. So please, forget all that now. And yes, donโ€™t call me again."

Navya felt like the ground beneath her had slipped away. She had never imagined that Rohan would say something like this. She wanted to say so much, but she didnโ€™t know how.

Navya โ€“ "Rohan, please, you..."

Rohan โ€“ "Goodbye, Navya."

Cutting her off mid-sentence, Rohan hung up the call. Navya sat down in a corner and started crying.

After some time, somehow, she gathered herself and returned home, locking herself in her room.

Today, her heart was broken. Her best friend had broken her heart.

Two years later,

It had been exactly two years since that incident. Navya had completed her college and started working at a company near her home.

Even today, she wore the ring that Rohan had given her. But she never expressed her pain.

Days were passing by, and now her family had started discussing her marriage.

However, Navya still loved only Rohan, but there was no news about him. He neither answered her calls nor did any of their friends know about him.

A few days later, Navyaโ€™s office assigned her a work trip to Mumbai for a week. She immediately agreed because her family kept asking her about marriage and she wanted to get away from all this.

She convinced her family as well and started preparing to go to Mumbai.

After reaching Mumbai, Navya checked into her hotel, freshened up and rested. The first three days went by in office work.

After that, she finally got some free time. It was evening and she thought of visiting the beach to feel better.

Thinking this, she picked up her bag and left for the beach.

It was evening and the sunset was about to happen, creating a beautiful view at the beach.

Navya started strolling along the shore.

It was the monsoon seasan and a cool breeze was blowing. Looking at the weather, she was reminded of that evening when Rohan had proposed to her.

She looked at the ring on her finger and then removed it from her hand.

She wanted to throw it far away but couldn't bring herself to do it.

Suddenly, someone bumped into her and in the process, the ring slipped from her hand and fell a little distance away. She ran towards it.

The ring had fallen near the feet of a boy who was reading a book, so his face wasnโ€™t visible. When he noticed the ring, he bent down slightly to pick it up.

At that moment, when she saw the boyโ€™s face, Navya was shocked.

It was Rohan.

On the other hand, Rohan's gaze was still fixed on that ring. He slowly lifted his eyes and looked at the girl standing in front of him.

Seeing Navya's face, tears welled up in his eyes, but he controlled himself and said in a rude voice,

"You... what are you doing here?"

Navya: "I should be the one asking you that question."

Rohan pointed towards the ring and said,

"You still kept it safe..."

Navya: "No, I was just about to throw it away."

Rohan replied without emotions, "Good decision. Here, go ahead and throw it."

Navya: "You..."

Seeing Rohan speak so rudely, Navya felt deeply hurt. She felt like crying.

She wanted to scream and ask him why he did this, but she said nothing.

She snatched the ring and turned to leave. But just then, her eyes fell on the cane beside Rohan, the kind used by disabled people.

Seeing it, she instinctively looked at Rohanโ€™s legs. Something didn't seem right. She stopped and asked,

"What happened to you?"

Rohan softly replied, "Nothing."

But Navya asked again.

Rohan was already very troubled and now he couldn't control himself. So, he shouted,

"You really want to know what happened to me? Here, see for yourself!"

Saying this, Rohan took the cane and stood up. He was struggling to stand properly, making it clear that one of his legs was broken.

He continued,

"I am no longer normal. I have become disabled. That day, when we had the accident, you fell on the other side, hit your head and lost consciousness. The driver tried to escape and, in the process, ran his truck over my leg..."

As he spoke, tears filled Rohanโ€™s eyes.

Hearing this, Navya was completely shocked. She had no idea about any of this. She was told that Rohan was perfectly fine.

Rohan continued,

"The doctor said my leg will never heal. I will remain like this for life... In this condition, how can I make you my life partner?

I never wanted to face you again, which is why I left the hospital the very next day. I came to see you one last time while you were unconscious. I cried a lot that day. Leaving you was unbearable, but maybe we were never meant to be together."

Navya: "Why didn't you ever try to meet me? Not even once? Didn't you ever think about what I must have gone through without you?"

Rohan: "I kept checking on you through your doctor. And then one day, the doctor told me you had fully recovered and were discharged. I knew you would try to find me, so I left without telling anyone and came to Mumbai. Even here, I continued my treatment, but it was useless."

Navya stood silently, listening to everything.

Rohan: "Forgive me, Navya. I hurt you but I was helpless. I will never be able to give you happiness. So please, leave me and marry a good man."

Pain was evident in his voice, but he spoke with great courage.

However, Navya didnโ€™t respond. She turned and started walking away.

Seeing her leave like that, Rohan felt even more broken.

He lowered his head and sat down.

But after a while, Navya returned.

Seeing her back, Rohan was shocked.

She came close to him, knelt down and extended her hand toward him.

When Rohan looked, he saw the ring in her hands.

Clearing his confusion, Navya said,

"What did you think? That I left you and went away? No... I just went to bring this ring for you."

Rohan: "Navya, you..."

Navya: "Wait a minute, I am not done talking yet."

"How could you even think that I would live without you, that I would marry someone else? That day, you proposed to me but you never heard my answer. Today, I want to give you my answer.

I love you too, Rohan. I love you so much. Will you marry me?"

Hearing this, tears welled up in Rohan's eyes, but he said,

"No, Navya. I can't marry you in this condition and ruin your life."

"My life is not getting ruined. How could you even think that I would refuse to marry you because of your condition?

I was with you in your happiness and I want to be with you in your pain too.

I have waited for you for two years, believing that you would return one day. But you didn't even think it was necessary to tell me the truth."

"Forgive me But now, I am not worthy of you. I thought you would reject me. I didn't have the courage to face you, so I ran away." Rohan said.

"But now, you are not running anywhere. Promise me, or else I will beat you up and never talk to you again!"

Hearing this, Rohan couldn't help but smile.

Laughing, he said,

"But now, I canโ€™t dance with you, Miss Navya."

"No problem. Instead of dancing, we will sing together." Navya smiled.

Rohan: "Oh really? Then all the students will run away from the function after hearing our voices."

Both of them burst into laughter.

Rohan slowly tried to get up and Navya supported him.

Then they hugged each other.

Today, after so many years, tears of happiness filled their eyes.

Time might have passed, but their love remained as deep as ever.

Rohan kissed Navyaโ€™s forehead and then asked her,

"I love you, Navya. Will you marry me?"

Navya hugged him tightly and said,

"Yes, Rohan. I love you too... Please never leave me again."

The people around them got emotional seeing their love. As they embraced, everyone clapped for them.

The breathtaking view of the sun setting over the ocean bore witness to the fact thatโ€”

"If love is true, its outcome will be as beautiful as this view.๐ŸŒ…"

After much convincing, Rohan and Navya's families agreed to their marriage.

Today, they are happily living together. Navya works at a job, while Rohan, passionate about painting, stays home and sells his artwork in an art gallery.

They stand by each other through every joy and sorrow, facing all challenges together.

Their love became an example for others, proving thatโ€”

"Love is selfless. True lovers stand by each other in all situations, never letting their love fall, always offering support and filling their partner's life with the colors of happiness."
